Awww, poor Rena, I really feel for her. I was in a similiar situation once, and it's just aweful. I hope one day she'll be better than all of them and show them how to ride properly.

Aww, I'm glad you can relate (even if it sad!).
Unfortunately, the way I've got this planned out, it'll get worse before it gets better. I have two other scenes ready to post but I'm trying to space it out so it's one post per day while I wait to find out about something (and also while I try to figure out which direction to go in after this).

She ran until her lungs burned, until she couldn't breathe, until the sun and tears blurred her vision. And then she tripped.
Apparently she couldn't even run away properly.
Her lungs sang with relief as she saw the property line and, for once, she wished she lived further away just so they couldn't find her as easily. She ran on energy she didn't have anymore and went into the house, to the left and into her room, slamming the door shut. She also wished she had a lock on her door.
She crawled onto her bed and wrapped her arms around her knees as she tried to shrink into the smallest possible shape into the darkest corner of her bed, up against the wall.
Everything in her stupid room reminded her of how stupid she was. How stupid it was to think that this would be different; that this time she wouldn't fail; that she wouldn't make a fool of herself. And yet, she did.
Just like she always does.
I've got one more scene, I think, that involves her dealing with this and then it should get happier. Probably. Unless I come up with something else between now and Wednesday, haha.

There was a knock at the door.
"Rena? Can I come in?"
At least he asked first. Rena buried her face into her knees and drew in a breath, as if it would help her calm down enough to speak normally.
"Y-yeah,"
And her voice still cracked. The door opened and Terry poked his head in before moving to sit on the bed. He stared at his hands. It had never been unusual for her to lock herself in her room, but she'd been doing better. So now it was unusual.
"I don't want to ride anymore. I don't... I just don't want to,"
She mumbled, turning her head away from him.
"They made fun of you again, didn't they? Rena, I know you don't want to go back there but... let's think about it, please. I don't... I don't want you to quit because riding has made you so happy and I think it can make you even happier. You can just keep riding Dapple casually if you want,"
Terry murmured, turning to look at his daughter. It pained him to see her like this, to see her so... no, she was not broken. She would never be broken. She was never broken. She was normal, as normal as anybody could ever be in this world.
"But Dapple isn't my horse, she never was. She felt like she was mine and this reminded me that... that she isn't. That she's everybody's horse. That... no matter how much I wish she were mine, she isn't,"
Her voice cracked and she shifted closer to her father, head resting on his shoulder lightly. Terry shifted to stand and brought her up with him, pulling her into a hug.
"Just... promise me you won't quit just yet. Please..."
"I promise."

I used to have this when I had my own horse where I was the one they tended to pick on, not because I was a bad rider ((not saying I was perfect mind)) but because he wasn't a purebreed like theres. They hated it more that he so often beat them in competitions

Thank you! It does get better, although I imagine it won't necessarily be smooth sailing from here on out. Also I'm putting the date as the 17th even though it's just past midnight for me right now. This is because I posted them a few hours ago on my tumblr and only just now got around to posting them here. And last note, I've got a website set up for the characters currently involved in the story. It is not mandatory to read to understand the story, it just gives background on some of the characters you've seen once or twice (namely her instructor and the snobby girls, as well as the horses used in lessons): rena-humble.jimdo.com
Rena’s Diary: Entry 8
I think my parents are planning something. They’ve been secretive all week after the day that I’ve now dubbed the ‘Riding Fiasco’ because it was. And no, I don’t want to talk about it.
They’re just… they still talk to me but they always have something else to do. And my parents, aside from working, never have anything to do. I know this. They just sit on the couch and watch TV while my brother does homework.
I… I have more homework to do so I should probably keep this short. At least my teachers are happy since I’m finally paying attention in class instead of finishing late homework.
Night.
To my old friend, Terry,
It should go without saying that I was surprised to hear from you after all these years. Luckily the letter was forwarded from my old address to where I live now, which is only a few hours from Appaloosa Plains.
I think I’ve got just the horse you’re looking for. She was sold and then returned about a year ago so I’ve been working with her since then. She’s fairly quiet but she plays well with the other horses so socialization hasn’t been an issue for her.
I’ll drive by on Thursday so you can meet her, see if she’s the right fit.
See you soon,
Sven Jorensson
PS. I managed to find two photos of her as a foal so I figured I’d send them along so you can get an idea of what she looks like. Those photos are a bit faded, sorry :] Sven Jorensson is a sim made by Emelia Potter, he came as a household with the foal and she offered to let me use him to introduce her to the story, so he'll be in a few pictures, heh

Ah, first appearance, that was quite quick I can't wait to see Lil' Morning Smoke all grown up! Ah, I'm so excited! Sorry, you really deserve a long comment and all but I'm ill and it drives my crazy, I can't think anymore, sorry. I like the introduction and the story behind her is really possible and I promise I'll give you a longer comment on the next updates

Awww a horse for Rena. She's soo cute. That will be Rena's horse?? Yes, Rena gets her own horse I had it planned to some extent, just had to actually find a horse that I thought suited her and then also figure out how to get Dapple out of the equation. Originally she was going to be sold because the equestrian center could no longer afford to keep running and then my friend gave me an idea and with some tweaking, it turned into what happened here. Ah, first appearance, that was quite quick I can't wait to see Lil' Morning Smoke all grown up! Ah, I'm so excited! Sorry, you really deserve a long comment and all but I'm ill and it drives my crazy, I can't think anymore, sorry. I like the introduction and the story behind her is really possible and I promise I'll give you a longer comment on the next updates I'm just glad you saw this, haha. Yeah, it was a fairly quick introduction but I really didn't have much filler between the riding 'incident' and introducing a new horse. Although she hasn't officially been introduced to Rena yet Also, talking about the story, there will be some allusions to her father's past, they are relevant and you can ponder them while I work on more updates for tomorrow. Excuse my poor photoshopping skills, I'm normally a tad better at lead ropes but I kind of gave up at some point while making these
Today was the day.
Well, Terry knew today was the day. He was always the last to head off to work so he had been sitting in the master bedroom, checking up with Sven to see how the filly was doing while they waited for Rena to head off to school.
Once the bus had left, he dialed Sven and waited for him to arrive. It was kind of hard to miss a bright red trailer as he backed into the driveway. Stepping out of the truck, Sven fished out a key to unlock the trailer and lowered the ramp.
“That’s her,”
He said, a hint of pride in his voice as he stepped up the ramp to remove the ties that kept the filly secure in the trailer and clipped on her leadrope. He walked her out of the trailer calmly and she took it all in stride, standing quietly with her head held high as she looked around.
“She’s massive,”
Terry breathed, taking a step back to look at her. Sven laughed as he lead the filly over to him as she craned her neck to try to sniff him.
“I forgot that you haven’t ridden a horse in years. But you did mention your daughter has only ridden ponies so I shouldn’t have been too surprised. Is she going to take the same path her father did?”
Sven talked idly, but a quick glance at Terry and they shared an entire unspoken conversation. Terry shrugged his shoulders casually, as if it didn’t matter anymore but Sven knew better. He shifted to hand the lead to Terry as he went back into the truck and pulled out a dark blue saddle pad and lead rope.
“You mentioned her favourite colour was a dark blue so I figured I’d get her a little something that’s her own. I also pulled out your old set of tack from storage, had to cleaned up. Not sure if you wanted me to but I figured she might get some use out of it,”
Terry nodded slightly, moving to trade the lead rope for the tack as they walked to the barn at the back of the lot.
“Thanks. I mean it, this means a lot to me… I know how much horses changed my life and to see them doing the same for Rena, I just… I don’t want her to feel like other people can stop her from achieving what she wants to achieve.”

Ah, I'm so proud of Morning Smoke, honestly, I wish I had kept her now :D I for myself think she grew up very well. Oh well, she's in good hands with Rena (and Terry) I'm sure of that. I have no idea what Sven and Terry are talking about, does the best (errh, only) horse trainer I have yet hide any secrets from me? Well, actually I shouldn't even know what they talk so forget that :D I can't wait to see how Rena reacts to Morning Smoke and I can't wait to see how Morning Smoke reacts to her, I'm following this story with more excitement than I have with writing my own :D I hope Rena will like her. The interesting thing is, that I use the same blue halters at Marigold Acres for all Stallions and Geldings...
What I wonder now is what will happen to Dapple and what you meant with "Incident". I hope nothing bad happens to both Rena and the lovable grey mare. And, another question, will we see the bad girls again or is Rena safe from them? I hatte those snobby girls, they exist at nearly every riding academy and they're the reason why I stopped riding and didn't began with it again. I'm still way too afraid to search a new riding academy but on the other hand, there's nothing I miss as much as sitting on the back of a horse.
Ok, I hope that counts as long comment :)
