Even tough I'm American, I was born in Finland. I'm adopted and I don't know my biological parents. It bothers me sometimes, but I've learned to live with it. To satisfy my need to know something about them, I've learned Finnish. It's a very hard language!
I also lived in Finland for a couple of years. It had been my lifetime wish, to study at the Ypäjä Horse College. And I managed to get in. I went for the double-studies. It includes the basic college studies and the groom studies. When studying in the groom line, there are a few options for follow-up studies. Such as the trainer for young riding horses, or driving, if you choose so. There you learn to break in the horse and make it used to the saddle and rider. After I finished that, I decided to go for the riding instructor studies.
When I came back to USA, I had a new goal. I wanted to have a stable of my own. I found a small town, where I bought the large lot that included an old house and a barn. I renovated both of them and included a loose house in the barn. The barn now has 10 basic box stalls. Maybe one day we'll have some fine stalls and proper fencing. For now, I have four horses. Three beautiful warmbloods. Two of them are jumpers, one is a dressage horse. And obviously I had to get something to remind me about Finland. A stunning Finnhorse stallion is a dream come true. Maybe I'll buy mares too, and start breeding them in addition to my warmbloods.
