A New Month, A New Year The Boys Are Now Yearlings! Its the start of a new "year" at DHS, and the colts you voted for have grown quite a bit. They are still lanky and smaller than their adult size, but they are coming along very well. Take a look! Arionas when he first arrived: Today: As you can see, his coat is definitely changing as he matures, getting lighter on the face and down his neck. We expect him to be near white come breeding age. Rivalstone as a baby: Today: He doesn't really enjoy pictures or posing, nor does he like jumps yet either x.x As you can see, he still has quite a bit of beefing up to do, especially over the crest of his neck, girth and hind legs. Cabrello as a little giant: Cabrello today: What an immaculate boy Jack is turning out to be, that coat! Is he smiling? I think he knows just how pretty he is. We can not wait to start entering him in Hunter/Jumper shows! Trevallis when he first arrived: Trevallis today: Still as posy as ever, T is growing fast into a handsome racehorse, he is expected to be very fast on the track. His coat has never shined so much, we are so thrilled with how he is coming along! All of the boys live together and have officially established their ranks in their bachelor herd. Trevallis seems to be the most dominant, and has buddied-up with Cabrello; they spend the entire day close to one another. T is turning into a possessive character, and easily gets jealous if one of the more submissive colts interact with Big Jack. Arionas and Rivalstone are good friends but have their differences, and Ari seems to dominate when it comes time to graze - part of the reason why Rivalstone isn't as muscled as the other guys. All of their manes have been cut short; since they are getting older, their play is getting more rough, and the last thing we want is to find large clumps of mane all over the pasture. We look forward to seeing what names they make for themselves once they start competing.

@ Lexi - lost count XD
@ Lance - thank you! If he wasn't going to be a one-of-a-kind stallion, I would have put his coat up for download.
*if any of the pics are large on your screen, they are resized, photobucket is just being weird. half the time they're the right size, the other half they're too big. Working on fixing it.

Aw, you guys are awesome! They wouldn't be here without you all, thank you for the nice compliments! The hardest part will be waiting, but i think if i get enough of a protest, i will. . . reconsider waiting until they are done with their careers, and might slip in a few breedings <3

Today was the day The boys were finally getting branded. Poor guys, this was only half of what they would eventually be receiving. Each one of them will be branded with the Dark Horse Stables Stud brand once they reach maturity and have proven themselves to be prominent horses, as assets to their breed and worthy of passing on their genes. Nixon was in charge of branding all the boys. He has been trained to brand and even owns some equipment. He brought along a woman who use to tattoo his parent's Thoroughbreds when he was younger. Prior to fetching the boys from the pasture, Nixon had a moment to look over his makeshift branding station, fully equipped for the job at hand. Cabrello was caught and led into the chute easily. It was easily read on his face the apprehension he felt when that steaming iron moved towards him. But when the time came, he turned his head away in a 'see no evil' manner and stood so nicely, a true gentleman. Big Jack received his DHS brand and his Irish Sport Horse breed brand today, what a good sport. Next up was Arionas. Such a timid and cooperative boy, Nixon was surprised when he bucked out before being led out of the pasture. The rump brand was pretty easy for him to deal with, but he needed to be held when it was time to put his PRE Andalusian brand on his cheek. Scaredy-cat was next - the submissive Spanish Mustang Rivalstone. Nixon noticed him being chased around the pasture by Trevallis when he went to go fetch Ari, so Rivalstone was already hyped up and scared when he was put in the chute. He thrashed and screamed and bucked when he realized he was trapped. Nixon was nervous to brand him, more afraid of making a poor mark than getting bit or kicked. When the brand touched his hide, Rivalstone screamed, but we think it was more from shock and anxiety than actual pain. Last up was Nixon's own horse, Trevallis. He was very easy to handle, possibly because he was running all day and the sun was setting, his energy was drained. Before getting to it, Nixon went to grab something out of the stable, leaving his friend to watch the well mannered boy for a few. Nixon was just coming back when he heard the roaring and screaming of his horse. He came racing back to the isolation paddock where the branding was taking place to see T thrashing in the chute, angrily biting at anything he could get his teeth on. The woman couldn't look more unimpressed. After some choice words and time for Trevallis to calm down, Nixon got him branded quite calmly. You'll be able to see their new brands when they get a little older
