> July 1st, 2012 My little unicorn foal grew up to be an amazing two-year-old! Unfortunately the camera wasn't with me on his birthday because Caren took it to photograph Arthur on that dressage competition I was telling you about. I can't stop myself from wanting to do something with him, so I persuaded Ella to allow me to set up a free jump for him. I want to see what he can do at this young age!
I have just a quick entry for today as I have to go and practice some jumps with Belle, but here's what I wanted to share with you: the awards from Circle F's schooling hunter arrived! We never told Vienna that she placed 4th with Seraf (RFE RFS Winner's Sunrise)! And here she is when I gave her the ribbon!
And also - those hard, long, sweaty summer trainings have started >.< Today's training was interesting as Arthur decided that he wanted Caren, Vienna and me to have a group lesson at the dressage arena. AND as I was about to go and tack up Belle - he stopped me and told me to go prepare Hridine! That mare grew to be around 1.8m, if not more! She's huge! As we started riding, Arthur called me over and started yelling at me: "How long have you been riding!?" he stood up from the chair "Oh come on, you know the answer to that." "You're an awarded rider, both at dressage and at show jumping, what's wrong with you now!?" I had nothing to say. He never held a dressage training for us before, so I had no idea where this is coming from. Josephine holds dressage for us, but she had something to do today and couldn't be here. I mean, don't get me wrong, Arthur knows his dressage as much as Josephine does, but I never seen him yell. "I can see you've been riding one horse for too long! Why else do you think I stopped you from taking Belle? This mare doesn't work that way! She is fairly young, she's much bigger than Belle and requires much, much more, but she knows a lot already." he and Ella were working with Hridine since she was a foal, as much is expected from her "Now you will ride without your stirrups. I want EXTENDED trotting for the next 20 minutes and then you will be doing sitting trot for THE REST of the lesson! Understood?!"
I saw Caren giggling in the background. She was having so much fun listening to Arthur yelling at me. She started training more intensely on Aman lately, and all I could think about is what's with her Hanoverian mare, Pearl. I asked Ella a few days ago if Vienna could ride Pearl, but she just made a big sigh and told me that Vienna will be taken care of. Today she was riding Ranato, so that's a good sign.
I continued on with the training as Arthur ordered. Hridine did well, but I was absolutely soaked in sweat after this! It must have been at least 30°C!
Tomorrow I'm making the free jump for my little unicorn boy, I'll make sure to take photos!

> July 2nd, 2012 Early in the morning I went over to the unicorn stables to get Brucephalus ready for the free jump. I know horses don't have to be really neat for that since it's just for us to see how high he can jump at this moment, but I felt like grooming him.
When I arrived to the stable the first thing I saw was that Vienna was there at some point. She pinned the 4th place ribbon to Seraf's stall, just like Midnight Patrol has over at our home stables.
I found Brucephalus out on the pasture. Soon he'll need to be separated from the mares and I'll ask Ella if he can be over at our home stables because I don't feel like walking those 5 minutes to get to him hahaha! As I was grooming him, Gena Weeks approached me. "We tried putting the bridle" she said pointing at the pretty bridle I put on him for the free jump photo, as he must be the most handsome stud ever :3 "but he refused. We tried to bribe him and praise him and all... but nothing. I guess he really likes you!" she said while I smiled "Yeah, I hope so..." Gena told me she'll help me set up the free jump. We dragged some round pen fences to the novice training course and surrounded a nice 60cm jump. I led Brucephalus to the course and asked Gena if she could hold him while I take some photos of him.
Then it was time to send him to the jump. I unclipped him from the leading rope and we sent him off to a steady gallop. He went over those 60cm like they were nothing. Oh, did I tell you, he's 2 years old and he's 1.8m tall! He's bigger than Hridine, so I guess she's not as big as I thought she was. But the point is - he's still growing! We set the bar to 80cm, 100cm, 120cm, 150cm and he kept jumping them as if he was a champion show jumper, doing this for years. "Hey... I have a silly idea." Gena said "Lets put the bar up to 200cm. Why torture him with slow raises? He just jumps more and we still don't know how high he can go." "What if he refuses the jump?" I asked "Then nothing! We tell Ella that he jumped 150cm and that we didn't raise the bar any higher." she winked and went towards the obstacle to raise it up. "Okay... but I don't think he'll do it. He's too young." "Wait and see!" she yelled from the obstacle, raising it up.
"Okay Bruce... go for it boy!" I said, releasing him from the rope yet again. Brucephalus started a steady gallop, keeping his eyes directly at the obstacle, with his head held low. "He's going... he's going... he's going..." Gena kept saying as he was closing up on the obstacle "... aaaand!"
"HE'S OVER IT! HE CLEARED IT!" I started jumping around the course, filling my shoes with sand "I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! HE CLEARED IT! Come here you!" I hugged him as tight as I could. He wasn't even breathing heavily!
"I told you he could do it!" Gena said "Now smile for the camera!"
