> June 19th, 2012 Tomorrow is the last day that RFE can enter the Jumper & Hunter - All Breeds because Ella cancelled the ship that transports us alongside with the horses. She says that we've entered enough horses and enough riders. The last ones that are jumping tomorrow morning (horses) are Amanecer and Hridine. I can't wait to see them jump! So, due to time shortage, Caren asked me if Vienna and I could get Amanecer ready for tomorrow's show. Of course I agreed! We've been working with Amanecer for a couple of months now, and his excellent lineage is shining through. I've ridden him a couple of times, but mostly Ella, Arnold and Josephine worked with him. For an unknown reason he has a special treatment. Maybe because he's an excellent jumper, and he jumped 1.90m on the free jump! Tomorrow he's going to be entered in the Novice/Limit Class, but with advanced jumps. And I can't wait to find out who will be riding him!
This morning the farrier arrived and got him a new set of horseshoes!
"Where's Vienna?" I asked Arthur, who was just preparing to leave for an outside dressage competition, with Conaire. "I have no idea... I think I saw her back in the house. Look... I've got to go, and hurry, sorry!" he put his hat on and looked around for something. "But I've... I've got to..." I was lost! Vienna had to help me braid Amanecer's mane, but she was nowhere to be seen! In two hours I had to be somewhere else, riding Hridine, to be precise! "Where ARE you!" I turned towards Arnold "When does your show start?" It seemed he did have some spare time, although he wasn't happy that he was supposed to spend it by helping me braid Amanecer's mane.
After I was down to a couple more braids, Vienna showed up from nowhere, rubbing her eyes and yawning. As soon as Arthur spotted her, he left in a running pace, calling out for Josephine as loud as he could. I looked after him, feeling bad for using the extra time he had, but then - there was Vienna I had to deal with! "Where WERE you?!" "I... I... I fell asleep... I didn't... I didn't mean..." "GOD! Vienna! Will you EVER grow up? This is a serious sport, we don't have time to mess around!" those words came out of my mouth and then I realized I competed in one too many competitions with Belle.
She was about to cry, so I calmed down. "Okay, look, I finished the mane, will you groom him properly?"
"Sure..." she replied in a scared voice. She's only 16, I can't yell at her like that! I gave her a big hug, smiled, and turned around to leave, when she suddenly stopped me "Lidija... I... uhm..." she got my attention "I have a feeling I'll be riding Amanecer tomorrow!" and a smile wrapped around her face. "Really? Who told you that?" "Well... I talked with Ella and she told me that I'll be competing in the first novice class there will be. And I've talked with Caren who told me that Amanecer's going to the novice class so I just put two and two together!" she was so happy! This decision seemed very odd to me, as I know how treasured Amanecer is to Ella and Caren, and I also know what they think of Vienna's competing skills... "Good for you! But, what's the problem?" I saw her biting her nails, there was definitely something bothering her.
"I... I never rode Amanecer. I can't compete like that!" this was instantly very suspicious. I KNOW Ella would've held her trainings on Amanecer if she were to compete with him. "Do you want me to give you a lesson? Let's do it before we groom and wash him, go on, saddle him up!" I had no idea what I was doing and what would have happened if Ella or Caren found out what we were doing.
It was already night when we got to the indoor arena with Aman. Vienna was scared even to mount him! She competed in cross country and dressage before, I had no idea what was her problem all of a sudden.
"Go on, warm him up in a nice active walk, and then go over to trot. Just the basics. Come on, you know that, you've won trophies before (3rd place, guys, 3rd place!), he's not hard to ride!" I sat in the sand and watched them go.
"Alright, now go over to gallop!" By the time they started galloping, Vienna relaxed, and Amanecer was being really good. But throughout the "training" I saw that Vienna was full of fear and disbelief. I think SHE didn't even think that she'll be riding him tomorrow. I think she though that she wouldn't be riding at all...
"Great! It was a great round! Now go clean him up and let's pretend this never happened if Ella or Caren ask! Or Arthur!" "But he's not coming back 'till next week?" Vienna seemed to follow this thing better then I did. Ask me when the next tournament with Belle is, and how long it lasts, and I'll know, but where are other people from the Estate going - I had no idea! xD
The next morning I heard Vienna leaving her room around 5AM. I was just hoping she wasn't going out to ride Amanecer...

> June 20th, 2012 I didn't think twice about Vienna leaving her room at 5AM. I fell back to sleep and woke up around 9AM "The competition!" I gasped and tumbled down my bed, grabbing any clothes I could find on the way! I rushed to the jumping arena and just came to see Vienna dismounting off Amanecer, and Caren standing next to her in her riding pants and her show jacket. It was obvious that Caren was to ride Amanecer in the novice class... I saw the way Vienna was looking after Caren and Aman as they were entering the arena, and my heart just tore to pieces...
Caren, of course, had an excellent round with Aman, and he was really giving all he had (and more!) to the show. He was raising his legs high and didn't even think twice before jumping 30cm above the obstacles! Caren was glowing and then I realized that Aman was Caren's Belle... she was always jealous over that mare being "mine". She seems to have replaced her Hano mare, Pearl...
As they finished the course with excellent time and no penalties, she galloped by the fence and waved to Vienna who was standing on the side.
Vienna waved back, but could not, for the life of her, put a smile on her face.
"You could have thought this would happen." I walked towards Vienna, trying to find something comforting to say "The good news is that now Pearl's available. She's a really good mare, you could ask Ella if..." she stopped me right there and tears started pouring down her face. "Don't you understand? Ella and Caren will never let me ride anyone but Hectorina and Diamond Dog! And lately not even Hecti, and Diamond can't jump on competitions like these! I'm ready for more, but I don't have a h..." she couldn't finish the sentence and she ran off. I knew how much it bothered her not having a horse "of her own", and I couldn't understand why Ella wouldn't give or buy her one. After all, Vienna is her daughter! Her biological daughter, and Caren isn't! I decided I'll give her a chance to jump an advanced course on Belle one day, for training. Also I realized I need to talk to Ella, immediately!
"Did you see this?!" Caren showed up out of nowhere, she already dismounted Aman and was now leading him by his reins "This horse can jump! I think he will be great one day! This was just the novice category!" she was so happy. "Yup, I did, congrats! I hope you place 1st in the class!" "Thanks, hun!" she started looking around "Where's Vienna? She told me she would take care of Aman after we finish?" "Ah..." I looked down "She had to go, I'll take him." "Great, thanks!" Caren left and all I could think of was Vienna. Why can't I just be stuck up like some people and ignore her like they do? Oh, why am I even thinking this!
Later that day I went to see how my little unicorn colt was! Enjoying the pasture with the unicorn mares, he had no idea his 2nd birthday is tomorrow! "I'll bake you a cake! Yes I will, yes I will!" we immediately found a language we both speak - cake!
