I grew up in Sunset Valley. There was not much about that town that I appreciated; few places of
beauty, roads plagued with cars, buildings everywhere you turned and the absence of all things equine.
I was extremely lucky to take riding lessons from a young age at a small yard just out of town.
Considering the length of time I had to beg my parent's to let me take lessons, I did not mind one bit
that it wasn't the modern 5* ranch I had expected, but a small and shabby facility.
Although it may not have been easy to the eye, the lessons were perfect; everything I know today,
I learnt from my instructor.
After completing High School at the age of 16, I moved to Appaloosa Plains to live with my Grandma.
I often payed visits to her in school holidays, and she had promised me that I would be welcome as
soon as I left school as she knew how much I adored the town and the people in it; such a welcome
contrast to Sunset Valley.
My Grandma's house was situated next to a large breeding farm, where I often worked weekends
to gain a little money whilst I was studying at university. It was there that I first decided that one day
I would run my own stables.
After finishing university, I gained an apprenticeship at the JRA International Equestrian Centre where
I learnt about the finances involved in managing an equestrian centre, and although challenging
it never stopped me from following my dream.
Shortly after completing the apprenticeship, my Grandma sadly passed away.
To this day I thank her dearly for everything she left to me, and for everything she did for me.
She always believed that I could do it and she never once doubted me. And here I am now,
proud owner of Graen Equestrian. I couldn't have done it without her.
