So, I think I don't even have to tell you have many pms I have received after I registered to equus forum, concerning about my photo editing, especially the tails have attracted many photoshoppers.
Yet i have not much tutorials to offer you, but may this thread grow on time.
Here's a tutorial I did... maybe last fall? I isn't older than 12 months, and I still use same method as back then.
The tutorial is in FINNISH (because I did it for finnish community), but let me translate it to you:
First picture: It says "horses butt" I was drawing little muddy grey horse, that's still in progress in this tutorial (as some of you may notice). In first picture I have a horse with no tail, and some sketching of how I want the tails hair to set on. Remember that reference pictures of real horses(tails) are your friends!
Second picture: Says sketching. With big and soft brush I determine the main colors of the tail. Go rough, no need of doing anything fancy here. If you have whitish horse (like mine), you may want to paint the tail on dark surface (because on light surface you can't see what you're drawing).
Third picture: Reads "hairs" and "details". Select small and soft brush, and paint some hair to the tail (mainly to the edges)! Select lighter and darker colors than the base of the tail we did on previous step.
Fourth picture: Tells you to erase the end of the tail with big and soft brush. Don't erase too much, just that the end of the tail doesn't appear to be wet.
Last picture: Finishing. Do some details, then erase, details, erase, details, erase... Until you like what you see
Not that difficult, don't you agree?
So, tell my if this was helpful, and I would like to see what kind of tails you have done with the help of my tutorial
