Kidara Chance was born in Sunset Valley. When she was about 8 years old, her father was transferred to the Appaloosa Plains Police Department. Moving to the new town meant leaving her only friend, Mika Luna behind. Once settled in her new home, Kida became interested in photography and began to take photos of the neighbors horses. Her parents were a bit overprotective so she was never allowed to get too close to the animals.
However one night Kida was out by the pond near her house looking for inspiration for her next set of pictures, when a pure white unicorn approached the pond to drink. Enraptured by the mystic beast, Kidara decided she wanted to pet it. The unicorn was quite friendly and watched curiously as she came closer. Just as she was reaching to touch its muzzle though, her father saw what was happening and rushed to jerk her away. Startled the unicorn accidentally set fire to a nearby bush. The surrounding foliage was dry and the fire was quickly uncontrollable. The unicorn managed to protect Kida from the blaze, but was unable to help her family and they were tragically killed in the fire.
Kida was sent to live with a foster family until she was old enough to live on her own. Ever so often she would catch sight of the unicorn watching her from afar. On her 21st birthday she received an inheritance that her father had put away for her. Used to living rather humbly, she wasn’t sure how to use this gift. So she put it in a savings account. For the next several years she would work on her photography and sculpting.
Then one day her old friend Mika came to visit. Mika had gotten into breeding champion Arabians and proudly showed Kida some photos of her champions. One of them, Jazz's Star stood out to Kida and she remarked about how gorgeous he was and that she would love to shoot some photos of him. The two talked for hours until Mika had to reluctantly return home.
Three days later, her dog, Lola Nutt was out in the yard barking up a storm. By the time Kida had made it to the door to find out what was wrong, an unfamiliar man had unloaded Jazz's Song from a trailer.
He informed her that Mika had sent the grey Arabian as a gift and had requested that he remain as well, in case Kida needed help learning to care for her new horse. And she indeed did need a lot of help as she had never really been around horses that much. But with Luke Mchale explaining things, they soon had Jazz's Song settled.
She fell in love with the horse and soon decided that she wanted to try breeding them as well. There was just one problem. Her property did not have room for starting a stable. After much deliberation, she decided to move back to Sunset Valley and buy property there. Using her part of her inheritance, she bought a very large piece of land near the Equestrian Center and began the process of building a ranch and stable.
Once the property was ready, Kida bought three more Arabian horses. A chestnut mare named Dividing Line to go with Jazz's Star, a black stallion named Flying Dutchman and a mare named Victory to go with him. The first foal from these last two was a black colt with four white stockings and a wide blaze. She named the foal Flying Victory and then decided to name the ranch after the foal.
Shortly after the first foal arrived, a black and white pinto filly showed up on her property. Believed to be an orphan, she befriended and adopted the foal. Naming the foal, Dragon's Song, she was unable to register her as she had no idea what breed she actually was. As she grew up, the pinto quickly became a favorite on the ranch. Her quiet manor and beautiful markings usually stood out amongst the others in the paddocks. She has high hopes for these horses and with Luke staying on to help her, she hopes to breed some of the best Arabians around.
There are times, late at night, when the soft glow of a unicorn can be seen on the edge of the property. Kida often wishes she could make friends with the mystical beast, but it always vanishes if she approaches. Maybe one day.
