After extensive testing with various types of poses and in-game animations, I am personally satisfied with what little was given up to achieve the more upright neck called for by many breeds. I have done extensive comparisons between EA's headset and my slider set to the maximum that I would recommend for an Akhal Teke(the most upright-necked breed I could think of). As expected, in animations your horse's neck/head will be slightly higher than normal but it doesn't do much more than to lift your horse's head a little off the ground during grazing animations. In poses, again as expected, your horse's head will be very slightly higher than a standard EA horse. But then again that's the point of having a higher headset, isn't it!
I theory, one could also use this to slightly lower their horse's headset, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the interferences that it would most likely have with certain animations like grazing(head dipping into ground would be the main issue)
ALSO. If your horse has short/no mane, be very careful how high you push it because too high and the neck starts to create a bump in the neck over where the withers don't move with it. I found that I could get a pretty decent Teke-type neck without the bump. If your horses have mane, you should be alright to push it pretty high before you notice any "crunching" there. The "crunch" is also worsened by having high upper neck thickness. I will update this mod once I figure out how much in which direction I need to move that wither bone... once I find it again, lol. <3
LET THERE BE PROPER HIGH HEADSETS. YES. CLICKETH.
As if I didn't already have enough on my plate, I started fiddling with how to make pet sliders last night, and I really think I may be onto something in the form of a more upright neck for Tekes and baroque horses. It's still very rough as this is my first slider and I'm flailing about and figuring out what different values in the different axis points do, but it's definitely getting there!
It's been immense fun getting to this point(which is actually just a step above where I started in the first place XD); I've had some very "curious" horses that would tilt their head at you, and I had one poor pony look exactly like a camel, color and all. I nicknamed him Joe, teehee.
Here's a shot of where it is right now, where I'm leaving it alone to prevent myself from butchering it again, lol. I'm still testing it with other sliders, poses and in-game animations, but it should be ready very soon. What I've given a preview of is a short slide to the right; it can move more both ways so there's wiggle room for messing about with different slider combinations.
Project List for Free Time I'm aware that other people may have these projects as well. I'm going to try my hand at them anyways since it's good practice for me and my sliders may have different internal effects than theirs and could quite happily be used together. Also I only work on horses at the moment since I know them best.
Thicker neck/crest
Refined throatlatch
Taller/Shorter croup
Rounder croup
Wider forequarters
Wider hindquarters
I'm open to suggestions! <3
