When I go to open DDS in Gimp it just says file type unknown. Like it is expecting an image file..

Yes, I think so. I installed it from the link provided at the beginning of the tutorial. Maybe I did something wrong

I'm pretty sure I did everything exactly as your guide said, and when I apply my brand to a horse, it doesn't show up, but the color of the brand changes the color of the layer below it. What am I doing wrong?

Where in CAP should they be found? Depends if you made a regional or a "free form" brand.

It's quite alright, i'm going to check everything then if nothing works that's when i shall post in one of those EDIT: Finally, got it to load the DDS file. The problem was i still had an out of date version. I got the version 2.8.2 now. Aren't i smart lol EDIT 2: Anyone know how to do a black layer on GIMP? (or mainly all of the editing stuff on GIMP? ;_; lol i keep messing up This is only a month late... e.o A black layer on GIMP, you say? I presume you're at the part of the brand-making where you need to fiddle with alpha channels. Provided you haven't pasted your brand onto the grey horse map thing, you will be able to insert a new layer in between the brand and the map (click on the map so it's highlighted, then create a new layer). Use the bucket to fill this area in black. Merge or flatten the image (make sure there's no alpha channel), copy/paste into a new image, change the red brand to white, copy that, go back to the original, add in an alpha channel, then paste in the white brand image. Merge down, save, and import into s3pe. Sorry for that typographical spillage, Walden. ^^ I just figured it had been almost a month and they had not received a reply to my knowledge.

Wow! Did I miss something? I also use Gimp and had troubles with my brands cause I had never heard about alpha channels. How do I add one?
Thanks!

Arabelle, I'm sorry, I might seem idiot, but could you please add some screenshots to your explanations someday?
Thank you so much!

I've never had to add alpha channels But you use Photoshop, right? It may be different somehow.

It shouldn't be much different. I've never had to mess with the alpha channel for anything I've edited/messedwith/playedwith. This includes markings and items.
To do a black layer, you just create a new layer and you fill it with black. You compress it all. Save it. And it should work fine.

That's what I did but I keep having a full body beige marking instead of my brand. I just don't know why. And Arabelle says we have to add an alpha channel and copy and paste something.
